    AOI, short for Association of Optometrists Ireland, is an organization representing Irish optometrists. With extensive experience and knowledge, this association actively advocates for the interests of the Irish optometry profession. Its mission is to uphold the highest possible standards and promote the profession at all levels. Unfortunately, missing from the AOI is the Cork airport – but the organization remains dedicated to providing its members with powerful tools and support to better serve patients. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the AOI wrote a letter to authorities requesting the power to write prescriptions. Optometrists can relieve pressure on primary and secondary care for patients in the community, according to the association. AOI aims to help optometrists provide necessary services to patients without overwhelming the healthcare system. Moreover, AOI has been vocal in raising awareness on illegal cosmetic contact lenses, which can be harmful and cause vision problems. In fact, the organization's Optometric Advisor, Lynda McGivney Nolan, warned against using such lenses due to their potential risk to eye health. Instead, the AOI upholds the importance of seeking professional eye care from a licensed optometrist.
